In my recent series “When the World Stopped” I look back to Renaissance and Baroque, analysing the teathralic compositions of my favourite artists and paintings and transforming them into narratives that reflect society today.
The challenges faced by contemporary society are transferred into hidden and encoded messages by the means of Baroque richness, colourful exuberance of the image and flamboyant dramatics. The image is drawn with a gesture creating a rich colourful surface on the canvas.
While working on the paintings I search for the crossing point of figurative and abstract. The figurative composition reveals unmercifully the vanishing reality by turning it into abstraction.
